Hi all:

Canonical has taken a radical approach and has completely disabled any support or ability to install Sun Java in any version of Ubuntu, even going so far as to have systems that update automatically remove installed copies of Sun Java. This effectively means that there's no official JDK that Mapr can run under when installed in Ubuntu.

Is there any support for OpenJDK with MapR? That appears to be the path forward.

Thanks!

Yes, we are adding OpenJDK and IBM Java support.

Is there a version number planned to make this support official? Are there known issues running openjdk as of 1.2.3?

Canonical have reversed this decision from what I hear. And their decisions not to continue to distribute Sun's JDK doesn't impact installations that are done from other than the standard partner repositories.

Thanks, Ted. I hadn't yet heard of Canonical's reversal.

That's helpful, but it's clear that the Sun distributions are, well, setting, even by Oracle's own admission. Are there plans for formal OpenJDK support?
