I have seen various people recommend a generic hardware configuration of 1HDD per 2 cores per 4GB RAM. This leads to configurations with only 4 drives, but I can get some very high performance dual hex-core machines with 12 or 14 drives. Is it possible to use this many disks effectively? It would be nice to have higher disk density, but not at the cost of not being able to process the data as fast. My application is pretty much I/O bound, but also has pretty high data volumes. |
